T4

T4 supplements
Levothyroxine or Synthroid

This drug contains the synthetic form of one thyroid hormone, T4. Levothyroxine is the most commonly prescribed thyroid hormone replacement drug. T4 is the storage hormone and must be converted by the body into T3 to be used by cells.

T4 + T3

T4 + T3 combination (liothyronine)

Liothyronine contains the synthetic form of one thyroid hormone, T3. T3 is the active thyroid hormone that works at the cellular level to help with the delivery of oxygen and energy to cells, tissues, and glands throughout the body.

NDT

Natural Desiccated Thyroid (NDT)

Natural Desiccated Thyroid (NDT) is derived from the dried (desiccated) thyroid glands of pigs or cow and provides T3, T4, and other thyroid hormones found in the human thyroid gland.

Frequently asked questions

How do live visits work?

Booking a consultation is very easy. Once you have created your account, you will be able to book a consultation in no time with one of our thyroid doctors. We'll ask you to answer a few questions about your medical history. If you have recent lab results you will be able to upload them so that our doctors can review them.

A few minutes before your appointment, you will receive an email with a link to connect with your thyroid doctor online! And that's it.

After your consultation, your doctor will share with you their notes and recommendations

What is the Membership cancellation policy?

If you cancel your annual membership before your first doctor visit, you will receive a refund less a $15 service fee.

You can cancel your membership anytime and it will not renew after the annual period. (Example: If you start membership on 1/1/2022 and cancel it on 5/2/2022 it will be active and available for use until 1/1/2023). Your membership fee for the period in which you cancel will not be refunded and you will maintain access to all member services and benefits until the end of that term.

If you would like to cancel and end your your annual membership immediately (not at the end of the annual period) and be refunded any portion of the annual fee, you are responsible for the cost of services (at non-member rates) used during your membership:

  • $110 - per doctor visit
  • $99 - per kit + potential additional biomarkers
  • $75 - Nutritionist visit
  • $40 for vitamin supplements (one-off purchase)
  • $34 for vitamin supplements (as a subscription)

If you'd like to cancel your membership, please message your Care Manager in your Paloma portal.

We would be sad to have you leave! But we don’t aim to trap you. If you are a monthly member, your membership will end at the end of the month in which you cancel.

Are consultations covered by insurance?

Consultations with Paloma Health doctors are covered by most major insurers. We are happy to run an insurance eligibility check before your appointment and let you know the exact cost. You will not be charged until after your appointment.

If my medication dose changes, who prescribes the new or adjusted meds for me?

Your Paloma physician will communicate any dose changes to your pharmacy of choice. Most of the time, your medication will be ready for pick up at your local retail pharmacy same-day

How will I interact with my Paloma Health physician?

Through a video call.

A video call is an amazing way to have a great interaction with your physician.

The only thing you need is a smartphone or a computer with WIFI or a strong signal.

Who we can’t help

Our evidence-based clinical protocols make sure we only treat hypothyroidism online when it’s safe to do so. As such, we can’t give you low thyroid meds if any of the following apply to you:

  • Under 18 or 75 or older
  • Pregnant or had a baby in the past 6 months
  • Current or history of thyroid cancer
  • Taking levothyroxine 200 mcg or more per day
  • Taking two different dosages of levothyroxine every other day
  • Using levothyroxine for a reason besides thyroid replacement (treatment for obesity or depression)
  • Never have taken thyroid medicine
  • Taking other thyroid medicine like dessicated thyroid (Armour Thyroid), liotrix (Thyrolar) or liothyronine (Cytomel)
  • Taking amiodarone (Cordarone, Pacerone), a heart rhythm medicine
  • Taking lithium (Eskalith, Lithobid), a medicine for bipolar or depression
  • Taking prescription medicine interferon, getting chemotherapy, or medicines for HIV
  • Hypothalamic or pituitary problems
  • Heart attack in the past 6 months
  • Adrenal gland or any other hormone problem
Treatment and risks

Levothyroxine is generally safe but can cause rare and serious side effects like bone loss and heart arrhythmias (atrial fibrillation) if the dosage you’re prescribed is too much for your body. These risks increase if you take other prescription medicines, have a change in weight, or are not taking the medicine as prescribed by your doctor or nurse practitioner. So it’s important to let us know if any of these changes occur or you’re not taking the levothyroxine exactly as we told you to take it.Before taking any medicine we prescribe, always read the treatment plan we send you and the package insert that comes with your medicine for a full list of side effects and warnings.
