About

Dr. Annemieke Austin

The challenge to discover the underlying cause of illness and the search for answers is a privilege that Dr. Austin approaches with great vigor. She firmly believes that as these answers are discovered, the ultimate reward is improving the lives of her patients.

Dr. Austin’s desire is to include all aspects of the patients’ story in addressing the cause of illness, utilizing a comprehensive approach to reach a diagnosis and improve health. She employs a blend of the best of conventional medicine with evidence based alternative therapies.

A passion for functional and integrative medicine, specifically nutritional medicine, began as a young teenager when she read Mental & Elemental Nutrients by Carl Pfeiffer, MD PhD. While exploring this book, Dr. Austin became fascinated with the way nutrition can affect our brain function and behavior. Immediately she knew she had found her career path as a physician and soon began applying what she was learning at this young age to help with some of her own health issues.

A dedication to healthy living is more than just an occupational coincidence. It is a way of life. Dr. Austin is an outspoken advocate for health and preventing chronic disease. In addition, she is an avid athlete having competed in multiple triathlons with several top-place finishes to her credit. Any given day you can find her hiking, swimming, rock climbing, or mountain biking the hills of Central Oregon.

Dr. Austin is an honors graduate of Loma Linda School of Medicine. While attending Loma Linda she was inducted as a member into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society recognizing medical students who have excelled academically, demonstrated professionalism, and have shown promise of becoming leaders in the profession.

Dr. Austin received a Bachelor of Science degree from The University of California at San Diego in Biochemistry and Cell Biology, graduating magna cum laude. While attending UCSD she was inducted into the Caledonian Society for distinguished scholarly achievement of John Muir College at UCSD.

Dr. Austin completed her residency in Family Medicine through UCSF/Sutter. During her residency she was selected to be the National Medical Resident Representative for the American College for Advancement in Medicine (ACAM).

In addition, Dr. Austin served as Clinical Research Fellow with the UCSF Department of Dermatology Psoriasis & Phototherapy Center. Under the direction of Dr. John Koo, the fellowship included performing clinical research trials and comprehensive patient care treating severe psoriasis, eczema, phototherapy-responsive disorders, and general dermatology.
