About

Dr. Lloyd Runser

Dr. Lloyd Runser is a board-certified family medicine doctor who brings broad scope family medicine experience and personal compassion to treating patients with thyroid issues like hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid) or Hashimoto's disease.

As a healthcare provider, Dr. Runser has a special interest in the topic of hypothyroidism after walking alongside his wife through her journey with this thyroid condition. Together, Dr. Runser and his wife worked to get a diagnosis, implement dietary and lifestyle modifications, find the right integrative treatment plan, and overcome infertility. Through this experience, his mind and practice opened up to a holistic and individualized approach to uncovering and healing the root causes of chronic conditions.

Dr. Runser is Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians and Board Certified in Family Medicine. He completed his residency training at Madigan Army Medical Center, his medical school at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, OH, and his undergraduate training at the United States Military Academy at West Point, magna cum laude with a chemistry and life sciences degree.  Dr. Runser has worked as Assistant Program Director of the Novant Health Family Medicine Residency Program and the Womack Army Medical Center Family Medicine Residency Program, and is currently a telemedicine physician in private practice.

When not treating thyroid patients, Dr. Runser enjoys spending time with his wife and two young children, helping himself and his family stay healthy with many of the same activities and diets that he recommends for his patients.  He also loves doing anything outside including cycling, swimming, running, hiking, camping, vegetable gardening, and kayaking/paddle-boarding. He practices mindfulness, yoga movement, and breathing exercises.

What makes you passionate about treating patients with hypothyroidism?

I am passionate about helping people with hypothyroidism because I understand some of the challenges on a personal level after helping my wife of ten years through a complicated journey with hypothyroidism.  I believe that the treatment of thyroid disease by conventional medicine has a narrow focus and I am passionate about broadening that focus with all of the most current diagnostic and therapeutic options for patients.

What is your approach to treating hypothyroid patients?

My approach is patient centered, individualized, comprehensive, and holistic with the goal of helping patients feel well and healthy.  I want to meet the patient where they are in their healthcare experience and journey.  I understand that oftentimes an individual's experience with the healthcare system has been challenging and my goal is to provide an experience that is supportive, understanding, and healing. Whatever you tell me you are feeling and experiencing...I believe you.
