What biomarkers are included in the thyroid blood test?

We use a very complete panel to make sure we are able to get the big picture and treat your hypothyroidism the right way.

While many labs only look only at Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) to assess thyroid health, we believe it is critical  to also measure Free Triiodothyronine (fT3), Free Thyroxine (fT4) and TPO antibodies.

We also have Reverse T3 and Vitamin D testing available as an add-on to our complete thyroid kit. These upgrades do not require any additional sample.

How long does the testing process take?

Once your order is complete, your package will be shipped out of our fulfillment warehouse within 1 business day and you will receive your kit within 3-5 business days.

Collecting your sample should take no more than 5 minutes.

Once your sample reaches the lab, your results will be available online within 5 business days.

Please note that during peak holiday season, we may experience up to 2-3 business day increase in processing times. If you have questions about a specific order or sample, please email us directly at contact@palomahealth.com.

How does Paloma Health validate the reliability/credibility of your labs?

All of the laboratories with whom we partner are considered industry leaders in their respective areas, with extensive histories and have performed millions of tests.

In addition, they are all CLIA-certified, which represents the standard for quality among all laboratories. Furthermore, many of our labs hold further distinction in terms of approvals and certifications.  Specifically, all of our laboratories are accredited or enrolled with the College of American Pathologists, the authoritative as well as other accrediting and validating bodies.  All of them perform frequent internal quality controls and testing, as well as regular third-party testing for independent validation of the accuracy of their testing.  Consistently, such validation shows a high degree (>95-99%) results correlation.

These results are continually made available to Paloma Health. If you have questions about accuracy or quality of your test results please contact Paloma Health by emailing us at contact@palomahealth.com

Do I have to have a prescription to order a test?

Under CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments) regulations, testing varies by state and requires a written or electronic request for patient testing (493.1241). The exception to this regulation is those states that allow Direct Access Testing (DAT), which allows consumers to test without a physician-authorized requisition.

Paloma Health works with a physician network to authorize all test requisitions in every state where we offer our testing kits. For questions regarding this matter, please contact Paloma Health at contact@palomahealth.com. We currently do not offer our kits in New Jersey, New York and Rhode Island.

Are the test kits covered by my insurance company?

This is an at-home health test that doesn't require an office visit. Unfortunately, most health insurance companies do not cover the cost of these at-home blood tests. However, Paloma Health's tests are typically priced lower than out-of-pocket costs associated with such visits.

As always, this will depend on your own coverage but we encourage you to check with your insurance company to see whether they will cover all or some of the cost of our at-home thyroid test.

When discussing coverage, it is important that your carrier understands specifically what the test is and what it is testing for. Be sure to mention the following key points:
- The test is taken at home via a blood sample and analyzed by our partner laboratories
- The test measures: TSH, Free T3, Free T4, Anti-TPO Antibodies
- The report measures the above markers and reports on whether they are high, low, or within the normal healthy range.

Do I need to stop taking my supplements or medications before the test?

We do not recommend discontinuing any medication without contacting your physician first. If you have questions about a specific medication, please email contact@palomahealth.com and we'll gladly answer any questions.

Are Paloma Health tests suitable for children?

Paloma Health currently does not offer tests to anyone below the age of 18 because we aren't able to irrefutably validate the guardianship of that minor. Paloma Health and our Physician Network take those matters very seriously and as a result of it not being possible for us to confidently verify that guardianship. This is noted in the palomahealth.com cart page, our terms of use, the FAQ section, and our physical kits.

Additionally, we restrict registration for anyone below the age of 18.

If a test was purchased on Paloma Health.com and your order hasn’t shipped, we can offer a full refund upon request. If your order has already shipped, we can offer a full refund minus $15 to cover shipping and handling fees. Our full returns policy can be found  here.

In addition, if you notify us that a submitted test was used by a minor before our lab begins processing, we can offer a refund minus $15.

If we discover that an account was created and contains results from a minor, we will remove the account within 24 hours and no refund will be issued.

For any other questions regarding this policy, please feel free to email contact@palomahealth.com.

In which states can I purchase a kit?

Paloma Health tests are currently available to residents in 46 U.S. states. We currently do not offer tests to residents of the following states: New York, New Jersey and Rhode Island.

This is due to each state having different medical regulations and we hope to expand in the future.

How do I use HSA/FSA benefits to pay for a Paloma Test Kit?

You can directly use your HSA/FSA card at checkout when you buy an at-home kit. You can also pay with a standard debit/credit card and  submit your payment for reimbursement through HSA/FSA benefits. As always, be sure to check with your specific HSA/FSA benefits coordinator for clarification on the specific requirements for reimbursement including usage, protocol and qualifications.

With the lancet, twist and pull the long piece of safety plastic off the end of the lancet. Then, place the lancet between your index and middle finger (like holding a syringe). Place and hold onto the finger you wish to draw blood from and squeeze the lancet

Are your tests available outside of the United States?

Paloma Health can only ship within the United States at this time. However, due to state regulations, we are unable to ship to New York, New Jersey, and Rhode Island. We hope to eventually offer our tests in all 50 states, as well as internationally.
